FAQs for Decking

The construction process with Durante is completely and totally different than with other companies. We will only send professional, experienced installers to work on your home who are true experts on how to properly build with composite. Also, we build decks using more lumber and wider lumber than other companies, so a Durante deck is going to be stronger and better-built. Our decks are often described as ‘tank-like’ because they are so sturdy.

Composite products are made from locally sourced, recycled materials and crafted at state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities using only the finest raw materials available and the latest in polymer technology. It is this combination of high-quality ingredients and manufacturing expertise that produces the best-performing composite products in the industry.

Composite decking materials are pretty resilient. Clean your deck twice each year to remove pollen, organic debris, dirt or stains. Generally, a broom or a blower will work better than a hose for removing scattered organic materials like leaves. Over time, especially with kids and pets, the deck may become soiled. Dislodge accumulated dirt with a broom or by using soap and water and a scrub brush. Scrubbing in the direction of the grain is best. Thoroughly rinse off with a garden hose.

Skilled professionals may use a pressure washer with wide fan tips, at low pressures under 1,500 psi and at safe distances, 12″ above deck. In the wrong hands your composite deck can be damaged. Exercise extreme caution. Improper use could lead to damage of the surface and in-turn, a loss of your warranty coverage.

No. our products require only periodic cleaning with soap and water. Deck sealants are not required or recommended.

Salt-water splash has not been found to be detrimental.

Not usually, but some composites do stain from dripping grease. Place a vinyl-backed splatter guard mat underneath your grill.

Use denatured alcohol and PVC pipe cleaning liquid.

Make sure there is adequate and unobstructed air flow under the deck to prevent excessive water absorption. Improve drainage or grade flat areas where standing water may gather. For decks with limited ventilation, six inches of clear ventilation is required.

Our products cannot be installed on an existing surface. As an alternative, you can install decking on top of 2×6 or 2×8 structural joists over the existing surface. If you plan on using our 7.25″ post mount, you will need 2×8 joists. We recommend that you use 2×6’s or 2×8’s standing vertical on edge as support joists over the concrete. Next, fasten the decking to the support joists. Be sure to allow a 1/4″ gap between the long edges of the deck boards. Drainage and ventilation are necessary for best product performance; therefore, we recommend shims to level the deck that allows a clear 2″ space between the bottom edge of the joists and the concrete.

Products installed according to our manufacturer’s instructions and to local building codes provide sturdy decking and surrounds that do not splinter, crack or decay, protecting workers and users from potential injuries.

Our products feature one or more unique features that can help contractors reduce waste by up to 15 percent per job. Grooved (GV) boards come in a variety of lengths so contractors will have to cut fewer boards to fit, creating less scrap. Boards that are reversible have usable surfaces on both sides that reduce the number of cuts needed, eliminating waste.

Tile decking is made from custom-poured concrete, a material that is far more durable than traditional decking materials such as wood. It is therefore extremely resistant to weathering and will not rot, chip, peel, or grow mold, nor will it fade over time. Additionally, it is 100 percent non-combustible, which may earn you a discount from your home insurance company.

Good news is that tile decking is very easy to clean. Unlike wood decks, which need to be regularly sanded and stained, our concrete tile decking only requires an occasional rinse with the garden hose to maintain its like-new appearance.

The cost of your tile decking all depends on the design of the deck, but you’ll be happy to know that it is a more affordable option than other types of decking on the market. During your free, in-home consultation, our design team will draft a blueprint of your new deck and will be able to give you a free quote on the spot.

Yes, tile decking is strong enough to support a pergola or patio cover if you want shade for your deck. If your cover is made from a heavy material, we can reinforce the decking to support 1,000 lbs. per tile.

Installing a tile deck is best left to the professionals. At Durante Home Exteriors™, you can trust in our craftsmanship because our technicians are all highly trained and have years of experience. By partnering with us, you won’t have to worry about mistakes being made or corners being cut — your new tile deck will be installed perfectly so that you can enjoy it for years down the road.
